Doncic s secret to renewing his contract! Locking the trade veto power after three years, giving birth to the third gold medal in the league for exemption from death

Luca Doncic officially signed a three-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday, with a total value of $165 million. The signing of this contract also gives him a chance to recover the losses caused by being traded by the Dallas Mavericks. The new contract will take effect from the 2026-27 season, with the final year being a player option, allowing Doncic to jump out of the contract to become a free agent in the summer of 2028, by which time he will have 10 years of NBA experience. In this way, Doncic can not only choose to jump out of the contract and sign a super contract with a total value of more than $418 million for five years, but also his 10-year NBA age also qualifies him to obtain a trade veto. This clause is very rare. Only Damian Lillard and his teammate LeBron James once owned it in the entire league. It is an absolute right area that even superstars like Durant and Curry have not been involved in.
These two potential rights may be particularly attractive to Doncic, who was as shocked as the rest of the NBA when Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison traded him to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis in February, who had just bought a house in Dallas and thought he would spend his entire career with the Mavericks like Hall of Fame forward Dirk Nowitzki.
But the fact is that the Mavericks are unwilling to make a promise for Doncic's next contract, let alone his entire career, and this deal also cost Doncic the right to sign a five-year contract. However, the Lakers seem very willing to do so, even promoted General Manager Robert Pelinka to president of basketball operations, and completed an early renewal with him in April this year to recognize his outstanding contribution in promoting the deal. Moreover, Pelinka and Doncic have a good private relationship, and their same love for basketball and music (both like backstreet boys) always make them both have endless topics on the sidelines.
Although the signing of this contract and the personal relationship with Pelinka do not guarantee that Doncic will become a lifelong player of the Lakers, for now, the Lakers and Doncic seem to be very loyal to each other. The 26-year-old defender recently helped recruit free agents such as Marcus Smart and DeAndre Ayton to his new team and successfully lost weight before the start of the new season, showing his determination while improving his competitive form.
But in order to prevent the Lakers from changing their minds in the future, they may also hope to replace him with a glass center six years older than him. Doncic does have a trade veto to protect himself. Although the current relationship between the Lakers and Doncic looks beautiful, the same is true for his relationship with the Mavericks at the beginning. No one could tell what would happen. Players of his level are more secure in their own hands. Given the lessons of the past, no player in the NBA will attach as much importance to the trade veto as Doncic has. His new contract renewal has put him on the right path to obtain the trade veto.
