On November 25, according to Shams, agents Faison and Gray revealed to ESPN that the Los Angeles Lakers will sign center Drew Timmy from their G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, and the two parties have reached a two-way contract. Timmy played for the Brooklyn Nets at the end of last season and then joined the Lakers Development League team, averaging 25.5 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists per game in the G League. In order to make room for Timmy, the Lakers waived center Koloko.

Salary expert Marks said that according to regulations, Timmy can play 40 games for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Drew Timmy had a great record in his college career at Gonzaga University, but unfortunately he was not selected in the 2023 NBA Draft. He spent most of his first two seasons after graduation playing in the NBA Development League. Due to Timmy's outstanding performance on behalf of the Nets' Long Island affiliate team during the 2024-2025 regular season, the Brooklyn Nets signed him to a two-year standard contract at the end of March.

At the end of June, the Nets chose to exercise Timmy's player option worth US$1.955377, but this salary was not guaranteed. Ultimately, the Nets waived him during the preseason. The 25-year-old forward/center played in 9 games for the Nets at the end of last season, averaging 28.2 minutes per game, contributing 12.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists; his shooting percentage, three-point shooting percentage and free throw shooting percentage were 44.1%, 25.7% and 62.5% respectively.

Timmy plays for the South Bay Lakers, a subsidiary of the Lakers G League, this season. He was elected the G League Player of the Week last week, averaging 30 points, 7 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game.
