Westbrook has undergone surgery on two fractures on his right hand, and he needs to decide whether to stay in the Nuggets by the end of June

May 28th news Earlier, Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook disclosed that he had undergone surgery to repair two fractures on his right hand.

Westbrook said: "Thank you all for your support throughout the year. I can't wait to return to the arena at 100% as soon as possible. The comeback is already on the way, #WhyNot."

During the Nuggets' playoff journey this year, Westbrook's fingers were wrapped in thick bandages. The Nuggets eventually lost to the Thunder 2-4 in the Western Conference semi-finals, and the playoffs were terminated on May 19.

Westbrook, 36, has played 75 games for the Nuggets this season, averaging 27.9 minutes per game, contributing 13.3 points, shooting 44.9% from the field, plus 6.1 assists and 4.9 rebounds. His first season in Denver has started 36 games, the year with the most starts since the 2021-22 season.

Westbrook has a $3.47 million player option in the 2025-26 season, and he needs to decide whether to execute next season's player option by June 30.

Westbrook played 1,237 games in his career (of which 1,075 starts), playing for the Thunder, Rockets, Wizards, Lakers, Clippers and Nuggets, and averaged 21.2 points, 8.0 assists and 7.0 rebounds per game. He is the NBA history triple-double king (203 times in total), ranked eighth in history (9,925 times) in history in history and 23rd in scores (26,205 points), but is still pursuing his first championship trophy.
