Conte: I didn t expect to sign McTominay last year, I was actually unsure

June 20th Naples coach Conte recently admitted that he never thought the team could sign McTominay from Manchester United in the summer window last year.

Conte said: "I know McTominay very well. He is a player who grew up in Manchester United's youth training system. I noticed that although he always creates an impact, he never gained a core position in Manchester United."

"He hardly plays the main player. To be honest, I discussed the signing with Director Giovanni Manner. He said it was a feasible plan, but you know that the directors sometimes comfort the coach with kind lies. If you ask me if I'm sure I can sign McTominay, my answer is no."

"Don't forget that we don't have the qualifications for European competition in the new season, so he has to leave Manchester United and start over in Italy."
