November 8th, according to Dutch media Soccernews, Ajax is seriously considering inviting Overmars to return as the club's technical director again. The Eredivisie giants have made two attempts before.

At the beginning of this week, Ajax fired coach Heitinga, and technical director Alex Cross also resigned. After a busy summer transfer window that saw several key players depart the Johan Cruyff Arena, Ajax are looking to bring new energy to the squad through a combination of experience and talent. However, things didn't go as planned for the team that had a record number of championships. The club management believes that the team has not improved enough under the leadership of Heitinga and assistant coach Marcel Keizer.

The day after the 0-3 defeat against Galatasaray in the Champions League, Ajax announced the dismissal of Heitinga. At the same time, technical director Alex Cross also resigned. However, the club management temporarily requires Kroos to stay on to ensure that the organizational structure will not be greatly affected. Behind the scenes, Ajax are already actively searching for Kroos' successor. It is unclear whether Ajax and Overmars have made contact, but it seems it is only a matter of time before they try to bring back the latter.

From July 2012 to February 2022, Overmars has served as the football director of Ajax. Under his leadership, the club culminated in what became known as the "Velvet Revolution" and culminated in a Champions League semi-finals appearance. Players such as Blind, De Ligt, Frenkie de Jong, Tadic and Ziyech won the hearts of Ajax fans during this period. However, Overmars was forced to leave Ajax in February 2022 due to allegations of inappropriate behavior towards female members of the club's staff.

The consideration of inviting Overmars back is not directly related to Ten Hag's return. Ten Hag is currently a free agent after a brief spell at Leverkusen. During Overmars' tenure as director of football, the Dutch coach experienced career highlights, including the aforementioned Champions League semi-final. Nonetheless, Overmars' return could help facilitate Ten Hag's return. However, the two matters are not directly related at present. Overmars still has a one-and-a-half-year contract with Antwerp.
