Lewandowski "forced away" the head coach of the national team

2:31pm, 13 June 2025Football

In the last round of the World Cup European qualifiers, Poland lost to Finland 1-2 away and suffered its first loss. The last time they lost to the opponent is a European qualifier in 2006. Theoretically, this defeat alone would not shake the head coach Pro's position, but the Poles chose to resign voluntarily because his conflict with Lewandowski, the team's number one star, has reached an irreconcilable level.

It is hard to say which is right and wrong in the Polish team's "internal strife". The cause of the incident was that Lewandowski missed the Polish team's training roster in June due to the double pressure of physical and mentality, and then he was stripped of the captain's armband by Probén. During this process, many of Pro's decisions were difficult to understand. For example, he refused Lewandowski's request to voluntarily resign from his position as captain and mentioned this matter specifically at the pre-match press conference against Finland, without giving the respect that the meritorious veteran deserves. Fans did not buy Pro's decision. After the Polish team lost, they collectively supported Lewandowski and pointed their finger at the coach's seat. The sky above the court was filled with boos and "split get out of class".

After being deprived of the captain's armband, Lewandowski immediately announced that he would not return to the national team during his coaching day. Although after playing against Finland, Pro confirmed another day that he had no intention of resigning, Polish Football Association Chairman Kulesha also intends to reconcile. But in the face of pressure from all sides, Probro finally chose to resign. He wrote in his statement: "After careful consideration, I think under the current circumstances, in order to ensure the best interests of the national team, it is the best decision for me to resign from the position of head coach." It is just that the crisis of Poland is likely to not end there. After all, the new captain Zelinski has hinted many times before that most people in the Polish team support the head coach's decision to deprive Lewandowski captain's armband. Although this has not been confirmed, at least Zelinsky's attitude has been very clear. If Lewandowski returns to the national team, a new wave of "undercurrents" may arise.
