When less than 10 days before the Champions League final, a heart-warming soap opera that lasted for 10 months finally came to an end. On Thursday, May 22, 2025, Paris Saint-Germain officially announced its contract renewal with sports consultant Louis Campos until 2030.
Qatar Football Empire designer
This Portuguese, who has been in charge of the Paris transfer market since 2022, not only has he consolidated his position in the club and continued to take charge of transfers and lineup construction, but his role will be further expanded to become one of the designers of the global sports territory of Qatar Sports Investment Company.
Before the Champions League final, this may be the biggest suspense surrounding Paris Saint-Germain. Will Campos, a great contributor to the creation of Paris Saint-Germain this season, leave this summer? Will he be replaced, such as the rumored candidate Mendes recommended? There were even rumors that he would quietly retreat and find another boss when glory came. French media keep releasing conflicting news, and Paris officials have not spoken out for a long time, which has led to increasingly anxious fans. Now, with the official announcement of the club, the dust has finally settled.
Through this renewal, Campos also gained a new role: a strategic consultant to the entire QSI (Qatar Sports Investment Company). His responsibilities will cover “overseeing QSI’s overall sports strategy, including the Paris men’s football affairs, and advising on the development of the Braga Club while playing a key role in new investments in the multi-club football system, international sports assets and top talent identification”.
In other words, Campos will not only take charge of Paris' transfer market in the future, but will also be responsible for the Portuguese Super League Braga. Braga is one of the important layouts of the Qataris in Portugal. QSI initially acquired 21.67% of its shares in October 2022 and increased to 30% in 2023.
What is more interesting is that in the first year of coming to Paris, Campos had a quarrel with the then general manager, another Portuguese, Antero Enrique. The acquisition of Braga was an important project that Antero Enrique helped the Qataris complete after fading out of Paris and participated in the management. Now it is equivalent to another piece of land being handed over to Campos.
The official communiqué also specifically mentioned: One of Campos's tasks is to assist QSI in finding other potential club investment targets, which may mean that the Qataris will not be satisfied with owning Paris and Braga, but will also accelerate the construction of their own football empire.
Subtraction management improves Paris's combat effectiveness
Campos' contract renewal was supported by head coach Enrique, who said in March this year: "I started the Paris project with Campos, and I also hope to complete this project with him. There is no doubt about this." The double-Luis combination of Campos and Enrique is the most efficient sports management and coaching combination in Paris in the past decade. In the 2024-25 season, Paris Saint-Germain completely bid farewell to the superstar strategy, allowing Campos and Enrique to build a team according to their own intentions. Paris's success is based on a precise and high-quality list of signings: including young players such as João Neves (60 million euros), Desir Due (50 million), William Pacho (40 million), Kvaratskhlia (70 million) and Safonov (20 million). Except for Safonov, the other four players have gained a foothold in Enrique's tactical system and have become important members to help the team sprint to the full sprint in the Champions League in the second half of the season.
Moreover, Paris can fully maintain dominance in the future with its current lineup, because its operations since last summer have reduced Paris' average age to 22.4 years old, no longer relying on superstars, nor on veteran players who have achieved success elsewhere.
In addition, according to Le Parisien, when Campos first took over Paris Saint-Germain, the club was paying 52 professional contracts at the same time. The first team was incredibly bloated, and now it has been streamlined to less than 30 people, forming a refined and efficient combat unit. This "subtraction management", coupled with the successive departure of superstars, helped Paris cut its total salary by halving to 330 million euros within three years, greatly improving financial flexibility.
Although the contract renewal has just been completed, Campos has quietly started the operation of the summer transfer market. He traveled frequently in the past month and personally inspected the target players. It is reported that Paris' primary reinforcement target is a right-footed central defender and a all-round left winger.
At the same time, Campos will also start to deal with the team's "edge players". An internal cleaning list has surfaced, including Li Gangren, Muani (loan Juventus), Soler (loan West Ham), Mukele (loan Leverkusen), Skriniar (loan Fenerbahce) and others.
