June 16th Grizzlies trade Bain to Magic, exchanging Pope + Cole Anthony + four unprotected first-round picks + one first-round pick swap right.
According to famous reporter Tim Bontemps, sources told ESPN that the Grizzlies had no intention of trading any of the only two remaining core members (JJJ and Morant) in the team.
TimBontemps said the Grizzlies have been freeing up their cap space in the past few months to negotiate early renewal with JJJ during the offseason, thus avoiding him entering the free market in 2026. Sources said that this matter will be completed, and Bain's deal provides the Grizzlies with more bargaining chips to renew JJJ, allowing him to stay with the team for a long time.
Jaren Jackson's salary this season is US$25.26 million, and the last year of the contract is US$23.41 million (2025-26 season). This summer, he can sign a contract that exceeds US$146 million in four years.
Morant's five-year, $197 million contract has just been implemented in the second year.
