How difficult is 5,000 points in the playoffs? Curry, Durant, and Harden failed to do it

3:45pm, 23 May 2025Basketball

Welcome back to the Shisan Arena.

NBA history so far, only 6 players have more than 5,000 points in their playoff careers:

James, with a total of 8,289 points, averaging 28.4 points; Jordan, with a total of 5,987 points, averaging 33.4 points;

Day Gou, a total of 5,762 points, averaging 24.3 points; Kobe, a total of 5,640 points, averaging 25.6 points;

Shawks, a total of 5,250 points, averaging 24.3 points; Duncan, a total of 5,172 points, averaging 20.6 points.

There is no doubt that these six players are all in the top ten in history.

Among them, Jordan averaged 33.4 points per game, with a total of 5,987 points; he ranked first in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in history in James.

The highest mountain and the longest river are just as good as it is.

There is another very critical point - except for Tian Gou, all of the other six players have scored more per game than their regular season careers.

For example, James averaged 27 points in the regular season and 28.4 points in the playoffs; Jordan averaged 30.1 points in the regular season and 33.4 points in the playoffs;

Tiangou averaged 24.6 points in the regular season and 24.3 points in the playoffs; Kobe averaged 25 points in the regular season and 25.6 points in the playoffs;

Shawks averaged 23.7 points in the regular season and 24.3 points in the playoffs; Duncan averaged 19 points in the regular season and 20.6 points in the playoffs.

Obviously, in addition to his long enough career, it is also a necessary condition to be able to fight tough battles - Tian Gou was mainly dragged down by the last few years of his career: his shooting percentages in the regular season and playoffs were almost the same.

So even the postman, the total score in the playoffs was stopped at 4761 points - averaging 25 points in the regular season, with a shooting percentage of 51.6%; averaging 24.7 points in the playoffs, with a shooting percentage dropping to 46.3%.

For example, Harden averaged 24.1 points per game in the regular season, shooting percentage of 43.9%, and three-pointers of 36.3%; in the playoffs, 22.5 points, shooting percentage of 42.5%, and three-pointers of 34%.

So Harden has scored 3895 in the playoffs so far - in comparison, Curry has played 18 fewer playoffs than him, but has a total score of 4147, ranking first among many point guards in history.

Because Curry averaged 24.7 points per game in the regular season and 26.8 points in the playoffs.

And among the active players, Durant has the closest to 5,000 points, averaging 4,985 points per game and 29.3 points per game.

Basically, as long as you have a chance to play another playoff game, you can break through the 5,000-point mark.

It's a pity that the Suns are really disappointing; I hope he can switch to a playoff team in the offseason, otherwise it would be a pity that it would be just 15 points away.

Further, the Curry and Harden mentioned above are basically unable to reach 5,000 points.

For example, Curry has 853 points left before 5,000 points. Even if it is averaged at 26.8 points per game, it still needs at least 32 games; it means that the fastest and fastest will take more than 2 years - and they all have to reach the division finals.

Harden doesn't have to think about it, there is no possibility at all.

Then, Leonard with a total of 3133 points, Westbrook with 3035 points, Clay with 3032 points, Paul with 2981 points...

Judging from the age of these four, it is impossible to reach 5000 points.

The real hope is Tatum with a total of 2936 points, Jokic with 2580 points, 2270 points, and Doncic with 1697 points.

Among them, Tatum was originally in a good situation - the Celtics maintained strong competitiveness all year round, and he was enough to carry it on his own, so it was only a matter of time before he could reach 5,000 points.

But now that he has injured the Achilles tendon, it will inevitably have an impact on the future, and it is difficult to be sure that he can continue the upward momentum.

Jokic currently averages 27.4 points in his playoff career. As long as he is sure to score at least the second round every year, he will probably be able to break through 5,000 points in about 7 or 8 years - if he can go further, it will be faster. The letters of

are similar, and they average 27 points per game in their playoff career. If they can switch to a competitive team, it is not a big problem to break through 5,000 points;

As for Doncic, his biggest capital is his youth - he just celebrated his 26th birthday and averaged 30.9 points per game in his playoff career.

As the largest traffic pool in the league, even after James retires, he will definitely not lose his attractiveness and competitiveness. As long as Doncic can maintain health, everything will naturally be easy to say.

So 5,000 points is really not easy.

Health status, peak length and height, team competitiveness, and some luck... are indispensable.

Finally, who else do you think has the hope of reaching 5,000 points in the playoffs in the active service?
