Thunder All-Star Shay Gilgers-Alexander ended the Nuggets in Game 4 Sunday, tied the series to 2-2.
Denver -- Thunder All-Star Shay Gilgers-Alexander talked about his role as a team finisher after Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Dignot praised the substitute's performance in the fourth quarter of Game 4. In Game 3, he scored 18 points from 7 of 22 shots, including 0 of 6 three-pointers. He believes he has made a big contribution to the Nuggets 92-87 win on Sunday.
The last quarter ended at 8 minutes and 57 seconds, he returned to the field, made 3 of 5 shots and 3 of 4 free throws. After the game, Gilgers Alexander reflected on the pressure he put on himself before Game 4, when he trailed the Nuggets 1-2 in the Western Conference semi-finals.
"My mindset is to do my best to win the game, and I really put a lot of pressure on myself," said Gilgers-Alexander. "I have high expectations for myself - it's always been like this. I always have ambitions, pursue excellence, and strive to achieve my goals."
For Shay Gilgers-Alexander, as the All-Star leader of the Thunder, he always has expectations for himself.
"I always feel like I have to do that. In those moments, the ‘guys’ on the team can make money. You make money," said Shay Gilgers-Alexander. "You end the game. You win the game, and that's what it means - win the game. The later the season, the stronger the opponent will be, the closer the game will be, the more you can handle the challenge."
Gilgers Alexander made 8 of 19 shots, scoring 25 points, and had 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals. Perhaps Gilgers Alexander had the last laugh in Sunday's game after Nuggets fans taunted him a few seconds after losing in Game 3 overtime. At least, he didn't.
Mark Degnott commented on Shea Gilgers-Alexander as the leader of the Thunder
After winning Game 4, Thunder head coach Mark Degnott shared the reasons why Thunder All-Star Shay Gilgers-Alexander became the ideal leader of the team. Gilgers Alexander's resilience is undoubtedly his most prominent trait.
For Degno, Gilgers Alexander will not be too excited after victory, nor will he be too low after failure, which is what makes him unique.
"I've always been amazed at how he can get himself back to his best after a great game - that's his secret," said Dageno. "Even if he succeeds, he can stay calm and humble; and when he fails, he won't blame others. He won't be angry. He won't be emotional. He won't be angry. He's so calm that he can return to the field, he's the player you don't have to worry about whether you can rebound."
The Thunder will play the Nuggets at the Pecom Center for Game 4 on Tuesday.
