U.S. media salary expert bobby Marks suggested that the Lakers make the following transactions. After the Lakers sold for 10 billion, the new boss made the first transaction that could be the following three-party big deal, each obtaining the results
The Lakers trade Knecht and introduced the starting center.
Brooklyn Nets won: No. 11 draft pick (via Portland), 2031 unprotected starter (via Los Angeles)
Los Angeles Lakers won: No. 8 draft pick (via Brooklyn), 36th (via Brooklyn)
Portland Trail Blazers won: G. Dalton Knecht, 2027 semi-finals protected No. 1 pick (via New York)
It should be noted that this deal depends on whether Duke's Carman Maluarch was in the lottery zone during the Brooklyn draft. If he was, the Lakers would have their future starting center, but at the cost of last year's first round draft pick, Knecht, and 2031 unprotected debut. This is the same plan the Lakers gave to Charlotte after a failed trade in Mark Williams last February, except for the 2031 first round exchange.
Lakers' basketball operations president Rob Pelinka made it clear after the season that getting a starting center is the top priority.
"I think when you make a huge deal in the deadline, trade your starting center for a point guard, that certainly brings big problems to the roster, and we see some of them appear. We know that one of our main goals this offseason is to increase the size of the center position in the frontcourt."
Maruac and Doncic are perfectly matched
At Maruac, the Lakers got an assist partner for Luka Doncic, a franchise protector and paint performance they lacked in their first round loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Lakers could have waited until the free agent period to seek a starting center, but they only have $5.7 million in tax mid-range exceptions available.
As for the Nets, they will rank third from the bottom and drop to 11th, but they will get the unprotected first in 2031 from the Lakers. The Nets still have three firsts in the draft (No. 19, 26 and 27), and 12 firsts in the next seven years, including four unprotected.
For the Portlanders, the deal is similar to the deal last June, when they traded the 14th overall pick to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Deni Avdia, their future debut. This time it was Knecht and a future star from New York
