On May 1, the NBA officially announced that Atlanta Hawks guard Dyson Daniels won the NBA's Fastest Progressive Player Award this season.

Daniels is the second player in the history of the Hawks to win this honor after Alan Henderson (1997-98 season).

He became the fifth player in NBA history to average at least 14.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals in a single season, joining Michael Ray Richardson (1979-80), "Magic" Johnson (1980-81), Alvin Robertson (3 times, 1985-86, 1986-87, 1988-89) and Michael Jordan (1987-88).

Daniels leads the league in both steals per game (3.0) and total steals (229). He set the record of the most steals per game per season since Alvin Robertson in the 1990-91 season; at the same time, he set the record of the most steals per season since Gary Payton in the 1995-96 season. In his third season of his NBA career, in his first season with the Hawks, the 22-year-old Daniels started 76 games, averaging 33.8 minutes per game, scoring 14.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 3.0 steals and 0.7 blocks, all data set career highs.

Daniels ranked second in the previous annual selection votes for the Best Defensive Player, and won the Eastern Conference Defensive Player of the Month twice in October/November and March respectively.
