Timberwolves massive offer to Durant is revealed, and looks better than the Rockets offer

According to US sports media F/W reporter Gautam Varyl. Kevin Durant's trading legend finally ended Sunday, with the Suns sending him to the Houston Rockets. The Suns didn’t get Durant’s return and it seemed like there had been a better offer on the table. Suns insider John Gambardolo revealed the Minnesota Timberwolves’ offer on the Kevin O’Connor show. “That’s what I think is the proposal,” Gambadoro said. "Durant doesn't want to go there and we can't be 100% sure. But I believe Minnesota will be Gobert, Divinsonzo, one of the young players, either Shannon Jr. or Dillingham, and then their first-round picks."
At the same time, the Rockets have only given up Jaylen Green, Dillon, the 10th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and five second-round picks. The Timberwolves' offer is obviously better, but he has no interest in going to Minnesota. Gambadoro is uncertain whether the offer is still on the table once the 36-year-old is clearly lacking in interest.
"I think it's a good offer from Wolves, but I think KD might be like the Golden State deal, sending such a message through a secret channel, 'I'll go there, but there's no guarantee I'll re-sign with you, '" Gambadoro said. “Now, I’m not sure if Minnesota is willing to make that deal without KD guarantees.”
Of course, Durant has ended a big deal that could have sent him to the Golden State Warriors at the February deadline this year. Now, NBA players don’t usually have much say in the trade, but the 15-time All-Star has some influence. Durant will enter the final year of his four-year, $194 million contract in the 2025-26 season, and the team needs to make sure he will re-sign with them before the deal. It wouldn't be surprising if the Timberwolves took the big offer from the negotiating table after realizing he could leave for free within a year. The Timberwolves aren't the only team that seems to offer a better offer than the Rockets. Kevin O'Connor reported that the Cleveland Cavaliers' offer to Durant included Dari Garland. Just like the Timberwolves, you would imagine Durant sending messages saying he doesn't want to go to the Cavaliers. Otherwise the Suns' chance to refuse Garland's acquisition would be meaningless, as Garland could have solved their point guard dilemma. The Suns also tried to trade Durant to the Miami Heat, but the asking price of Jax Jr., Jovic, Highsmith, 20th pick in 2025 and additional draft capital was not met. They were eventually forced to accept the Rockets' dull gain.
had to give up such ridiculous gains for a player like Durant, which means the Rockets became the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference with a record of 52-30 in 2024-25 and will be a strong contender for the championship next season. Their new superstar is already working, and clips of him working out in the gym are going viral online. Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 0.8 steals and 1.2 blocks in the 2024-25 season. He’s the kind of elite scorer the Rockets desperately needs, and it’ll be fun to see how far he can lead the team.
