Hupu, August 4th, Tottenham draws Newcastle 1-1 in the warm-up match. After the game, Tottenham player Ben Davis was interviewed.

Let's start with the competition. This game may be exactly what you want, and it is another truly difficult test. It feels like a Premier League match, with fierce competition.

Yes, I think that's exactly what we want. The game is very confrontational, very intense, and it is also challenging in this weather conditions. Of course, sometimes the quality of the game can be a little higher, but I think it's the same for both sides. Overall a good test. Now we look forward to getting home and keep working hard and getting ready for the new season.

This is also a process of adjustment and improvement, right? Whether it's a small tweak or a bigger change. Thomas talks about the team's defensive structure. You have played as a defender for 20 years. What do you think about the defense of this team now? It seems that your defense is very powerful.

Yes, I think our structure is more organized now. As you said, now there are more people going back to defend and helping the defense line. As a defender, to be honest, this is what you care about the most - it is to keep a clean sheet. The same is true for today's game. Opponents' opportunities come more from our own mistakes than from being completely broken through. We worked hard, and of course we were still disappointed with conceding the ball. But our mentality has changed, and we hope to improve compared to last year and not lose so many goals anymore. Our goal now is to complete as many clean sheets as possible, and this starts with efforts toward today’s opponents.

is about a month away from the start of the season and the first month under Thomas' coaching. How do you feel at the moment?

I think he has performed very well since taking office. He brought a lot of new ideas and we did a lot of work in the conference room and in the training ground. Of course, this is still a gradual establishment process, and you can see that there are still many places that are adjusting, and we are still adapting, but we are on the right track. I believe we will be in a good shape by the start of the new season.

Just now we saw your good friend, or one of your best friends in the club, leaving from his hometown and here, and were very excited. How are the players in your team feeling now? I know you are actually quite uncomfortable. How did you spend these days?

It feels a bit strange. After all, he has been here for so long and is an iconic figure in this club. His departure was a huge loss for the club. But from a personal point of view, he is one of my best friends. If you don’t see him when you come to train again in the future, you will be very uncomfortable - we have been together for ten years. This feeling will be very strange.

You just mentioned "icon characters". I just asked him to summarize his ten years at Tottenham. It's hard for him to express it in words. You know him better than anyone else, let’s summarize his influence and the legacy he left behind.

is incredible. I'm sure he's contributed much to this club than we imagined when we first introduced him. Not only did he make a huge contribution on the court, but he was also off the court. His character, his charm, and the efforts he has put into the club are all respectable. He deserves all the bright future.
