May 22nd reported that Dutch media VoetbalPrimeur reported that Ajax rumored coach Paul Simonis has renewed his contract with the Eagles.
Simones ushered in the most successful season of his coaching career this year. As the head coach, he led the Progress Eagles to win the Dutch Cup and qualify for the European Cup. This report card has attracted the attention of many clubs. It is reported that Ajax listed him as the number one candidate to replace Valeoli, but now he has renewed his contract until 2028 (previously expired in 2027), and it is not clear whether the new contract includes termination clauses.
The 40-year-old coach expressed his joy at the left-behind club: "I have gained an unparalleled sense of accomplishment in this great club. The renewal plan provided by the club is very sincere, fully reflecting my trust and recognition. In the current changing world of football, it is rare to maintain coaching continuity, especially in the face of the new challenges that are coming."
In addition to Simonis, his coaching team, including Dennis Van der Ray, Tristan Bergheis, Eric Werkhorst, Frank Bergheis, Martin Daneville, Jimmy Barnholon and Max Jansen, have also renewed their contracts. But the possibility of the head coach's transfer to Ajax has not been completely ruled out. Simonis had previously said, "When a club of Ajax's size sends an invitation, it's hard to simply say no."
