According to Sky Sports, Italian young central defender Giovanni Leoni has passed the physical examination and is about to sign a six-year contract with Liverpool, which marks another important node for Liverpool's operations in the 2025 summer transfer window. Leoni's contract will be signed until June 2031, and the club is expected to officially announce the news this week, preparing for the Premier League opening match against Bournemouth on August 16.

It is reported that Liverpool's transfer fee for signing the new star from Serie A Parma Club is close to £30 million (about €35 million), plus floating terms. In the competition, Liverpool beat Serie A giants such as Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus, and some Premier League teams to successfully attract this highly-watched star.

Leoni, who is only 20 years old, is 1.96 meters tall and is known as the "New Cannavaro". Last season, his aerial confrontation success rate ranked first in the list, showing excellent air control ability and defensive talent. He eventually chose to reject invitations from other giants and joined Liverpool.

This signing is an important part of Liverpool's strengthening its defense line plan this summer. Previously, the team had sold Kanssa to Leverkusen, and Joe Gomez was also stuck with injuries for a long time. At the same time, the main central defender Ibrahima Conat has only one year left in the contract and has received close attention from Real Madrid. Therefore, the introduction of Leoni is not only to enhance the depth of defense, but also pave the way for the long-term team building strategy of partnering with Van Dijk.

With Leoni's joining, Liverpool's total recruitment spending this summer has officially exceeded the £300 million mark. Previously, they had spent a lot of money to sign many powerful players such as Flynnpon, Kolkz, Werz and Ekitic.

Despite the huge investment, Liverpool also recovered about £170 million by selling players. It is revealed that the club may continue to operate and is currently actively contacting Newcastle United striker Isaac and Crystal Palace central defender Gee to further strengthen the lineup for the multi-line championship in the new season.
