Hupu September 25th News Petit revealed in an interview that Arsenal's first half against Manchester City at Emirates Stadium made him "bored and frustrated", although he also praised Arteta's team's performance in the second half.
The game started in just 9 minutes, Haaland scored the first record for the visiting team, and Manchester City led 1-0 in the first half. The Gunners created almost no threat except for a lot of possession of the ball in the first 45 minutes. Arteta replaced Merino with Eze during the break, and the adjustment finally gained rewards: Martineli, who assisted a substitute in the 93rd minute of the summer window, equalized the score and ended 1-1.
"I was bored in the first 45 minutes and was even more frustrated when I walked into the locker room. I looked forward to the Gunners' strong rebound in the second half, and they did. I was wondering whether they could get back the club's DNA - freedom of offense, smooth running, and aligned with the players. We also have to affirm Manchester City, they have excellent defense, rigorous tactics, calm and aggressive, and keep all the investment from beginning to end. One point is a fair result, but I always feel that it could have been better."
Petit, who once won the Premier League championship with Arsenal, recognized Arteta's coaching ability, but believed that Espanyol could not compete with elites such as Guardiola and Enrique.
"Are Arteta a top coach? No, he still needs to win the Premier League or the Champions League. He currently lacks trophy. I believe he is a good coach and can also become a very good coach, but he cannot be compared with Guardiola or Enrique yet - they have a lenient championship and are not at the same level at all."
