Premier League reached a 5-year partnership with Microsoft, using cloud and AI to innovate football game viewing experience

IT Home July 2, the English Premier League (Premier League) announced yesterday that it had established a five-year strategic partnership with Microsoft. Microsoft will become the official cloud and AI partner of the Premier League digital platform, promoting the modernization of league digital infrastructure, broadcasting and game analysis and organizational operations.

The Premier League officially declared that the cooperation marks one of the most important technological transformations in its history, focusing on four key areas: fan participation, game insights and analysis, cloud transformation and organizational productivity. Microsoft and the Premier League aim to jointly build the most advanced and secure media, data and AI platform in the global sports industry.

As part of this cooperation, the Premier League will launch Premier League Companion from now on. Powered by Microsoft Copilot, this assistant app is based on statistics, 300,000 articles and 9,000 videos over 30 seasons, and can bring fans special data and facts to the team/player.

In the upcoming 2025-2026 Premier League season, Premier League Companion will be further enhanced, providing a series of additional functions such as open Q&A in the native language of fans. In addition, the Premier League has moved its core technology infrastructure to the Azure cloud, integrates Azure AIFoundry services, and applies Microsoft 365, PowerPlatform and Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations.
