Ramos leads the way for Monterrey

Monterrey captain Sergio Ramos scored a goal against Inter Milan at the Rose Bowl Stadium and was reveled in his reunion with his European rivals.

The Monterey Football Club captain scored a first-time record against Inter Milan in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup opening in the Rose Bowl in Southern California, the fifth goal he scored for the Mexican club in the last 10 games, and it was an extraordinary reward for a central defender.

As the 39-year-old becomes stronger, he seems to give fans the impression that he becomes younger and younger as the season passes, like the protagonist in David Finch's modern classic. “He scored another beautiful goal and he carried his energy wherever he went,” Monterrey attacking midfielder Lucas Ocampos told FIFA. "That's why he's our captain...Heading is his specialty!

In fact, almost half of his 145 career goals to date have been headers (69). Goals are scored in multiple ways, and this impressive statistic makes the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ champion one of the most prolific goal guards in history.

In three of the past eight seasons (2016/17, 2018/19 and 2019/20), Ramos scored double-digit goals in all events in Real Madrid. In the 2016/17 season, he also scored 11 goals in all of Real Madrid's events. One goal became the first defender in the 21st century to break through double digits in La Liga.

Thanks to his goal-scoring ability and towering header, Monterrey made a perfect start in the Club World Cup against European heavyweights. This valuable point against the Italian (second in Europe) will inspire their tournament ambitions as their fans emerge collectively in the Rose Bowl.

"We will go step by step, but we obviously hope to win the next two games and go further together," Ocampos said.
