Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has always spoken straightforwardly. His views on former teammates Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi have always been very clear: the Argentine football king is better than Portugal's No. 7.
Although he worked with Ronaldo at Manchester United for five seasons, the two looked down on each other and often faced each other's tit-for-tat. Now Rooney hopes to end his long-standing dispute with his former teammate.
Recently on "The Rio Ferdinand Show", Rooney clarified about his feelings about the former teammate in response to the two fans' identification as disliked by each other.
"People think I hate him! In fact, I love him very much! I think he is definitely a genius, and his achievements are simply incredible. I don't think people realize how close I am to him."
Then, Rooney talked about his position on the arguments about Ronaldo and Messi: "Just because I say Messi is better than Ronaldo, some people think I don't like Cristiano."
"I certainly like Messi very much, I like it Watching him play, this is the only reason why I think Messi is better at playing football and challenging his opponents. Ronaldo is a killer, and because I say Messi is better than Ronaldo, people think I don't like or belittle him. "
"I just kind of like the characteristics of Messi, that's all. Cristiano's achievements have proven that he is a genius. He just turned 40 and the achievements he has achieved are simply incredible."
