Ruben Amorin spoke frankly about what changes Manchester United needs to make after a disappointing season.
Ruben Amorin said that instilling the right mindset at Manchester United is more important than signing this summer.
Manchester United has experienced their worst season in Premier League history, and Amorin hopes to win the UEFA Cup so he can qualify for the Champions League next season.
The revenue from participating in the Champions League broadcast against the club will be a huge increase and will also make it easier to attract players this summer. Amorin was not supported in the January transfer window and he needed strong support in the summer transfer window to get Manchester United back on track.
Manchester United needs a new striker, a right wingback and a new midfielder, and other positions need to be strengthened, but Amorin believes that instilling the right mindset is equally important.
Amorin talked about the club's culture at a press conference after losing to West Ham United. In an interview with Sky Sports this week, he also mentioned the need to re-cultivate the elite mentality.
Amorin said: "Some things cannot be changed in summer transfers. This is the feeling about this club, the way we look at this club, the real feeling that we cannot lose.
"We shouldn't lose at home, this feeling, we have to change, and we can't just think about the transfer. This is a deeper thing than changing players.
"We need to solve this problem, and we are working hard. People may not see it, but we are changing a lot of things in Carrington, the way we work here, and the way we have to behave in this club... The way we connect the youth camp to the first team.
"All of these things people cannot see, we are working hard. So we need to forget the finals and do better against Chelsea because we have a lot to improve. ”
Amorin was asked when he realized that something was wrong with Manchester United, he said: “I can’t tell the specific moment, but when you see the way we play, you feel that way.
"But again, it seems I'm blaming the players, and I'm responsible. It's hard to find other words to describe, I'm really embarrassed. There's a problem with the way we play football." He continued: "The last game against West Ham has made us feel deeply, especially because we beat Athletic Bilbao and we had the opportunity to maintain that momentum.
"We've had this several times this season, but we've slipped. But we've been working on this since day one, so it's another opportunity to play well and show our personality. ”
