No one cares about it! Average drop of 5 points + annual salary of 30 million yuan, a 100 million contract completely smashed the Blazers

According to the latest report by NBA reporter Evan Sidery, the Portland Trail Blazers are fully selling forward Jerami Grant, but due to his huge $102.6 million contract in the next three years, the league teams have avoided it and even regarded it as a "negative asset."

In the summer of 2023, Grant signed a five-year, $160 million contract extension with the Trail Blazers. He was highly expected at the time - either to be a reason for Lillard to stay in the team or to serve as the leader of the reconstruction period after Lillard left the team. However, as Lillard was traded to the Bucks, Grant's role quickly collapsed.

Last season, the 31-year-old Grant averaged only 14.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, which saw a decline in data across the board compared to the previous four seasons of 19+ points per game. Worse, his defensive influence is also declining, with a real shooting percentage of only 55%, far below the league's standard for quality frontlines.

Grant's contract has three years left, with an annual salary increasing year by year:

2025-26 season: 32 million US dollars

2026-27 season: 34.5 million US dollars

2027-28 season: 36 million US dollars (player option)

Such a salary structure makes any potential transaction extremely difficult. An NBA executive bluntly said: "No one is willing to trade a first-round pick for a player with an annual salary of 30 million and an average of 14 points per game."

Ironically, just a year ago, the Trail Blazers insisted on asking the Lakers for two first-round picks before they were willing to let Grant go, which led to a failure of the deal. Nowadays, they are hard to receive even a second round of picks.

Alliance sources revealed that the Trail Blazers were even willing to "eat the garbage contract" to send Grant away, but there is no progress at the moment.

From "the last hope of the Lillard era" to "negative assets that the entire league avoids", Grant's death is astonishing. Now, the Trail Blazers can only pray that he will explode in the new season, otherwise the contract will become a nightmare for locking out salary space for the next three years.

Grant's annual salary is 30 million now, which is definitely not worth it, but Grant with about 15 million is delicious.
