7:02am, 12 July 2025Basketball

The small players in NBA history have proved that height is not the absolute master of the basketball court with their speed, wisdom, fearlessness and extraordinary skills. They wrote legends in the giant jungle with lightning breakthroughs, precise projections, ghostly steals and tenacious fighting spirit. Here is a shining "short" superstars and fighters (usually referring to players with heights of 6 feet/1.83 meters and below):

1. Palace-level legend: The ceiling of short people

Allen Iverson: "Answer" (official 5 feet/11 inches/1.80 meters, actually may be shorter). The greatest little man in NBA history, no doubt. The shortest No. 1 pick, scoring champion (4 times), MVP (2001). The Crossover is interpreted into art, breaking through is like a ghost, scoring explosive power, and the never-saying fighting spirit infects a generation. In 2001, he led the team to the finals and scored 48 points on the OK group, becoming an eternal classic.

Isia Thomas: "Smiling Assassin" (6 feet 1 inch/1.85 meters). The leader and soul of the Bad Boys Legion Piston. Two championships (1989, 1990), MVP of the 1990 Finals. He has a tough and cunning style of play, and his key ball ability is top in history (the name of "Assassin" comes from this), and he is the top point guard representative who competed with Magic and Bird in the 1980s.

Chris Paul: "CP3" (6 feet 0 inches/1.83 meters). One of the ultimate form of traditional point guard. Top organization master in history (the third in assists in history, the third in steals in history), and the stadium commander. The 6 steal king and 5 assist king proved his control over the game on both offense and defense. The middle distance master, with a top basketball IQ, is a strong contender for the "God of Point Guard" (the only regret is the championship).

2. Assistant Master and Backcourt Engine:

John Stockton: (6 feet 1 in/1.85 meters). The record is almost difficult to break with the historical assist king (15,806) and the steal king (3,265). Karl Malone's golden partner, the brain of the Jazz Iron Blooded Master. Passing is as accurate as a scalpel, tough and cunning as a defense, and running without a ball is equally top-notch as a cover wall. Defines a stable, efficient, and selfless benchmark for point guards.

Steve Nash: (6 feet 3 inches/1.91 meters - edge, but is often classified as this list due to the style of the play). "Son of the Wind", a master of running and bombing, and two consecutive MVPs (2005, 2006). Upgrading the pass to art ("seven seconds or less" of the Sun's soul), historically top projection ability (180 club regulars), gorgeous and efficient style, leading the small ball trend.

Kyle Lowry: "Little Cannon" (6 feet 0 inches/1.83 meters). One of the greatest players in the Raptors' history. 2019 championship core point guard, 6 All-Star. He has a tough style of play, good offense and defense (master of offensive fouls), a steady organization, a big heart player, and is the perfect backcourt leader of the champion team.

Mark Price: (6 feet 0 inches/1.83 meters). Cavaliers are probably one of the greatest pure shooters in history (the second-of-the-line shooting percentage of 90.4% in his career, and the third-point shooting percentage of 40.2% in his three-point shooting percentage). He was selected into the 180 club four times (more than Curry), has excellent organizational skills, and is the Cavaliers' signature star before LeBron.

3. Scoreman and Elf Killer:

Nate Archibald: "Elf" (6 feet 1 inch/1.85 meters). The only player who won the scoring and assisting champion in a single season (1972-73). He is extremely fast and has a sharp breakthrough. He is an offensive elf in the 1970s. Hall of Fame member.

Calvin Murphy: (5 feet 9 inches/1.75 meters). Rockets Legend, Hall of Fame member. Probably the strongest short guard ever. He has super scoring ability (17.9 points per game in his career), accurate free throws (89.2% of his career), extremely tough style, and is not afraid of any confrontation.

Damon Studmeier: "Little Flying Squirrel" (5 feet 10 inches/1.78 meters). Best Rookie of 1996 (beating many geniuses). The rookie season is a stunning league, with fast speed, sharp breakthroughs and accurate projection. It is the signature of the early Toronto Raptors.

Isaiah Thomas: "Little Assassin" (5 feet 9 inches/1.75 meters). Modern scoring madman with the same name as the legend. The Celtics reached its peak during his time, and averaged 28.9 points per game to be selected for the second team (2017), and the "King of the Last Quarter" became famous in the league. Strong scoring explosiveness and key ball ability are the representative of the strongest 175 on the surface. A serious buttock injury seriously affected his peak continuation.

Trell Brandon: (5 feet 11 inches/1.80 meters). The low-key but efficient All-Star point guard of the 90s (2 times). With comprehensive technology, accurate middle distance, stable organization, clean and neat style, he is a reliable leader in the Cavaliers and Timberwolves era.

4. Speed, energy and defense pioneers:

Tini Boggs: "Little Bug" (5 feet 3 inches/1.60 meters). The shortest player in the NBA history. Survive in the league for 14 seasons incredibly! Very fast, excellent steals (the number of steals in career exceeds the number of blocks), and qualified organizational skills (the ratio of excellent assists and turnovers in career). It proves that absolute speed, ball quotient and fighting spirit can make up for the height disadvantage. The picture of blocking Ewing becomes a classic.

Michael Adams: (5 feet 10 inches/1.78 meters). One of the core engines of the "Running Team" during the Nuggets period. He averaged more than 7 assists per game for three consecutive years and bold three-point shooting (has set a record of three-point shooting and hitting in a single season), and is a representative of the early whirlwind.

Sbert Weber: "Potatoes" (5 feet 6 inches/1.68 meters). The champion of the 1986 Slam Dunk Contest! Wilkins made a shocking hit on the head of "the essence of human movies", completely overturning people's perception of the limits of short players. Prove that bounce can break through the sky.

Jose Baria: (5 feet 10 inches/1.78 meters). The Mavericks (Mavericks) was an important surprise who won the championship in 2011. The style of play is tough, the breakthrough is sharp, and not afraid of confrontation. It is a "bulldog" that provides energy on the bench.

Fred Van Vleet: "Van Jordan" (6 feet 0 inches/1.83 meters). A model for a counterattack in the undraft. The Raptors' key role player who won the championship in 2019 (especially the explosion in the last few games of the finals), later became a reliable starting point guard in the Rockets, with a tough style of play, a big heart, and an active defense.

Earl Boykins: (5 feet 5 inches/1.65 meters). The second shortest player in NBA history (second only to Boggs). After 13 seasons in the league, he has fast speed, flexible direction, and is a reliable substitute scoring point, with excellent ball-handling and foul-making ability.

5. The shining little guy in service:

Trae Young: "Mayor of New York" (6 feet 1 inch/1.85 meters). The new generation of super attack point guard. He has strong explosive power to score (25+ points per game), long three-point shooting range (Logo Shot), creative passing (9+ assists per game). The Hawks are absolutely core and have been selected as All-Stars many times.

Jia Morant: (6 feet 0 inches/1.83 meters). One of the most bounced point guards in history. The breakthrough is as sharp as a knife, and its aerial operation ability is shocking (a common occurrence for big centers) and its style of play is very ornamental. Grizzlies' core, future appearance-level star (need to solve off-court problems).

Daron Fox: "Little Fox" (6 feet 3 inches/1.91 meters - edge, but speed core). "King of Speed", one of the fastest first step owners of the league's active service. The breakthrough was sharp, the middle distance was stable, and the key ball was excellent, leading the Kings to end the playoff drought for many years.

Jalen Brunson: (6 feet 1 inch/1.85 meters). The new Knicks King. Transformed from the Mavericks' excellent puzzle to the All-Star starting point guard. Rhythm master, middle-range killer, excellent physical confrontation, and a big heart player are the key to the Knicks' return to the Eastern Conference strong team.

Terris Maxi: (6 feet 2 inches/1.88 meters). 76ers backcourt star. With a fast speed, huge projection progress and strong impact, he is rapidly growing into Embiid's most reliable helper and one of the team's future cores.
