The Clippers signed an old Rockets player with a one-year contract! He once scored 53 points in the G League and will hit a two-way contract

On July 27, according to famous reporter Shams, the Los Angeles Clippers have reached a one-year contract agreement with free agent guard Taytai Washington. The Clippers are currently limited by the first luxury tax line hard salary cap and cannot sign free agents under standard contracts. The Clippers Murray followed up with the report, which means Washington received an Exhibit 10 contract that was not included in the team's salary cap. The Exhibit10 contract is a training camp non-guaranteed contract, but if a player is cut and can play for at least 60 days on the team's G League affiliate team, he or she is eligible for a prize of $85,300.

23-year-old Washington is the 29th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, but as a rookie, he only has limited opportunities to play in the Rockets' 31 games. In the 2023 offseason, he was traded twice - from Houston to Atlanta, to Oklahoma City - and then cut by the Thunder. Afterward, he played for the Milwaukee Bucks on a two-way contract in his second season, and joined the Phoenix Suns on a two-way contract in his third season. Since entering the league, Washington has played in 58 regular season games, averaging 3.3 points, 1.2 assists and 1.1 rebounds per game in 10.5 minutes, shooting percentage of 34.7%, three-point shooting percentage of 23.4%, and free throw shooting percentage of 54.2%. He performed much better in the G League, playing 32 games for the Valley Suns last season, averaging 21.7 points and 7.4 assists per game, and shooting 41.4% from three-pointers. He also had 53 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists in the G League in a single game. As a three-year veteran about to enter his fourth NBA season, Washington is still eligible to sign a two-way contract. Therefore, if he performs well in training camp, he is expected to receive a two-way contract spot for the Clippers (the quota is currently full). Otherwise, he could become an affiliate of the San Diego Clippers' team in the G League.
