On July 15, AC Milan officially announced a major signing: 39-year-old Croatian midfielder legend Luka Modric officially joined, and the two sides signed the contract until June 2026, and the contract includes the option to extend to 2027. The Golden Globe winner will wear the No. 14 jersey of the Red and Blacks and embark on the journey of Serie A.
As a core member of Real Madrid's "Three Champions League Championships", Modric switched to the Bernabeu in 2012. He played in 597 games in 13 years and contributed 43 goals and 95 assists, winning 28 championship trophys including 6 Champions League and 6 Club World Cups. He left the team as a free agent after the Club World Cup in 2025.
In 2018, at the peak of his career, Modric not only helped Real Madrid complete the three consecutive Champions League championships, but also led the team to the World Cup finals as the captain of Croatia, ending Messi and Ronaldo's ten-year monopoly on the Golden Ball Awards, becoming the first non-"Messi"-based Golden Ball winner since Kaka in 2007. This time he joins Milan, this "midfield master" will continue his legend in the Apennines.
