May 3rd news In the 35th round of the Premier League, De Bruyne scored the winning goal in the first half, helping Manchester City defeat Wolves 1-0 at home. After the game, Carragher said on Sky Sports that although De Bruyne's performance was still outstanding, it was the right decision for Manchester City to choose not to renew the contract.

■ Carragher talked about why De Bruyne is still top-notch but Manchester City does not renew his contract

Carragher said: "He is one of the top-paid players in football, but he has been injured frequently in the past two years. From a business perspective, it is difficult for Manchester City to give him a new contract. In clubs of this level, you cannot tolerate someone who has a maximum salary but cannot play every week. This treatment should have been left to the absolute core of the team. Of course, he is still a top player, but he may only play 20-25 games per season in the future. From the perspective of club operations, Manchester City cannot rationalize this expenditure."

■ De Bruyne is frequently rumored to be in the United States or Saudi Arabia after leaving Manchester City, but he himself hinted that he still desires to stay on the top stage.

Carragher said: "From his statement, he doesn't think he wants to stay away from the top European stadiums at the moment. Although the Manchester City era is about to end, I originally thought he would go to MLS or Saudi Arabia to make gold, but now it seems unlikely. He believes that he will gain a foothold in the top European league next year and the year after."
