On November 12, Spanish media "Marca" reported that 28-year-old midfielder Alvaro Fidalgo is expected to become the "star signing" of the Mexican national team in preparation for the 2026 World Cup. Fidalgo has already shown his extraordinary ability in the Mexican League, helping Mexico America win a historic three consecutive championships.

Fidalgo will become the fourth naturalized player of the Mexican national team. Previously, Julian Quiñones (Colombia), Herman Beltrame (Argentina) and Santiago Jimenez (Argentina) have completed naturalization. It is worth mentioning that Jimenez obtained Mexican citizenship when he was 3 years old and received sports training in Mexico.

Fidalgo completed the naturalization process in October this year and officially became a Mexican citizen, enjoying the same rights and obligations as citizens born in Mexico. The Mexican Football Federation has also received the relevant documents in order to include the Spanish-Mexican dual national player in future call-ups.

Although Fidalgo was not selected by Javier Aguirre for the games against Uruguay and Paraguay, he still has the opportunity to wear the Mexican national team jersey. There are only two international matches before the 2026 World Cup (March 23-31, and June 1-9). If Aguirre plans to take him to the World Cup, he must be called up during these two windows.

According to TUDN reporter Gibran Alaig, Fidalgo will be called up in January for his first national team training and is expected to make his debut in a training camp in Central America during the international match in March.
