According to multiple European media reports, Manchester City midfielder veteran Ilkay Gundogan has reached a personal agreement with Turkish Premier League champion Galatasaray and is expected to transfer to the Turkish League this summer. Manchester City is reportedly open to the transfer.

As Manchester City continues to upgrade the midfield, signing young talents such as Nico Gonzalez and Tijani Rekinders, Gundogan, who is about to turn 35 in October, is expected to be limited in the new season.

French "League" reported that Galatasaray has made specific progress in pursuing Gundogan. The club has also previously paid attention to Gundogan's Manchester City teammate Bernardo Silva and Inter Milan's core player Jakan Cialhanoglu.

report pointed out that Gundogan and Galatasaray have reached an agreement on the terms of the contract, and the players have not yet communicated directly with Galatasaray coach Okan Brooke. Since Gundogan's contract with Manchester City is signed until 2026, the two clubs still need to reach an agreement on the transfer.

However, this transaction may not encounter much obstacle. Manchester City has always adopted an open attitude towards players leaving the team, and the transfers of highly-known players such as Mahrez, Sterling, and Sane are examples. The Guardian of the UK revealed that when Galatasaray first bought in January this year, Manchester City asked Gundogan to stay until the end of the season, but the club has changed its attitude and is open to his departure in the summer window.

It is worth noting that although the contract is still two years old, the Guardian said that Manchester City may not even charge transfer fees.

Gundogan's joining the Turkish Super League team has been expected by the outside world for a long time at the end of his career. The former German international has Turkish descent (both Turkish parents, who gave birth to him after settling in Germany) and has met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

If this transfer is completed, Gundogan will bid farewell to Manchester City for the second time. He made a total of 355 appearances in two stages of his playing field at Manchester City, leading the team to win the triple championship in the 2022-23 season, winning 12 important championship trophys for Manchester City, with outstanding achievements.
