How much transfer share does the Celtics get from Flynnon’s transfer?

4:58am, 2 June 2025Football

Former Celtics right-back Flynn Poon will transfer to Liverpool for £29.5 million. The Reds triggered his termination clause, and the 24-year-old Dutch international became Slott's first signing in this summer window, and will sign a contract with his new owner for five years.

In 2019, Flynnon joined the Celtics from Manchester City for £350,000 and transferred to Leverkusen for £11.5 million in January 2021. He was one of the heroes of the team's Bundesliga championship in the 23-24 season.

There are several different statements about how many transfers the Celtics will get from this deal. Some media reported that the Celtics could only get £3 million based on the transfer share terms. But other media have given different opinions.

Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph posted on Facebook that the Celtics will actually receive a share of nearly £5.5 million. Calculated at a 30% share ratio, such data is more reasonable. Leverkusen signed Flynnon for £11.5 million and now sells it for £29.5 million, making a profit of £18 million. 30% of this belongs to the Celtics, which is about £5.5 million.

This money is huge good news for Rodgers and the team who are preparing for the new season. Clubs need to be reinforced in multiple positions, and the additional revenue helps them operate in the transfer market.

Celtic fans are happy to see the players trained by their teams complete heavy transfers, and the club has also gained benefits from the transfers. Although Flynnon has been away from the Celtics for several years, joining Liverpool has proved the team's vision in the transfer market. The Celtics did lose Flynnon, but his success continues to benefit the team.
