Only 40 days! Real Madrid ushered in the shortest season interval in club history

5:39pm, 18 July 2025Football

Real Madrid's last game last season was in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup on July 9, when they lost 0-4 to Paris Saint-Germain. In the first round of La Liga in the new season, Real Madrid will play against Osasuna on August 19, which means the team only has 40 days to rest and prepare, setting a record for the shortest seasonal interval in club history.

Compared with last season, the preparation time for this season is obviously more tight. After the 2023-24 season, Real Madrid completed its last game on June 1, 2024, and did not usher in the first round of the new season (European Super Cup vs. Atlanta) until August 14, with a 73-day rest period at that time. Looking back, the 2023-24 season was unveiled at the home of Athletic Bilbao on August 12 at the San Mames Stadium. The team started on vacation on June 1, with a 68-day offseason.

The offseason is so short, mainly because Real Madrid participated in the Club World Cup in the United States and reached the semi-finals, resulting in the team playing 6 more games, and the preparation cycle for the new season has been greatly compressed.

The following are the rankings of Real Madrid's seasonal intervals from short to long:

40 days (July 9, 2025 - August 19, 2025)

43 days (August 7, 2020 - September 20, 2020)

54 days (June 17, 2007 - August 11, 2007)

58 days (June 22, 1997 - August 20, 1997)

61 days (June 20, 1999 - August 21, 1999)

62 days (June 17, 2001 - August 19, 2001)

62 days (June 22, 2003 - August 24, 2003)

64 days (June 30, 1989 - September 3, 1989)

65 days (June 3, 2017 - August 8, 2017)

66 days (June 18, 1995 - August 24, 1995)
