July 18th, the Daily Mail reported that Villa goalkeeper Martinez had no termination clause in his contract.
Manchester United may be forced to sign a new goalkeeper due to Onana's hamstring tear the second day of pre-season training. The Cameroonian goalkeeper, who performed under expectations in the first two seasons at Manchester United, missed four to six weeks and may miss the first round of the Premier League match against Arsenal and Fulham.
Earlier this summer, Manchester United had an affair with Argentine goalkeeper Martinez, but the relevant negotiations have recently fallen silent. The Argentine international was emotional after his last home game of the season against Tottenham on May 16. Although it does not mean that he will leave the team, the outside world believes that he is willing to consider new challenges.
This week, Argentine media reported that Manchester United rekindled interest after learning about the terms of Martinez's £21.6 million termination. But the Daily Mail exclusively revealed that the clause does not exist in its contract.
Manchester United sought a new goalkeeper for his poor performance last season long before Onana was injured last week. The club priced Onana £30 million, but the possibility of staying in the team this summer is continuing to increase. According to the Daily Mail, Monaco received this offer when inquiring at the end of last month. French sources said Monaco would continue to pay attention to the situation, but it is unlikely to pay such a high price for the goalkeeper. Saudi Arabia's new army, New Future City Sports, also visited Onana for a long time before signing Polish goalkeeper Burka from Nice.
Onana himself is eager to stay in the team, and club sources say he is likely to continue as Manchester United's No. 1 goalkeeper.
