August 14 According to "Every Sport", Barcelona has obtained approval from La Liga and can regard Ter Stegen's injury as a long-term injury in accordance with current regulations.
This permit was obtained last night after the La Liga Medical Commission went to Gambor Sports City yesterday morning to inspect the German goalkeeper and finally made the decision.
Therefore, Barcelona will immediately register for Joan Garcia today so that the goalkeeper can participate in the team's first La Liga match under Frick: away against Mallorca on Saturday, August 16.
This resolution went through a long process of deliberation. Ter Stegen has issued a personal statement saying his injury will be three months, while Barcelona claims it will be four months - the minimum period for being identified as a long-term injury, so that it can use some of its salary (80%) to register for Joan-Garcia.
According to the "Rules for Clubs and Joint Stocks Budget Preparation" document updated to June 19, 2025, in order to meet these 80% requirements, the medical committee's injury time must be more than five months. Otherwise, the proportion will be halved, which is 40%.
Specifically, this provision explains: "If you apply for registration of a replacement player before the end of the summer player registration period, unless the Medical Board makes a profit report within the time limit set forth in this section, confirming that this is an injury or illness expected to last for equal to or longer than five months, the excess amount will be reduced by 50%. "
If the injury time is indeed the expected four months, then half of the amount released, i.e. 50%. Obviously, this number will drop significantly. In this case, if Ter Stegen had a medical injury for more than four months but less than five months, the amount he released would be close to €5 million, slightly lower than the previously discussed figures.
