Whether the Rockets are chasing a star player in the offseason is actually not important. The Rockets are now the second team in the West. Compared to chasing star players, the Rockets retaining the stability and continuity of the lineup seems to be a better choice, which is something that Rockets general manager Raphael Stone has been emphasizing.

In fact, conservatively, the Rockets are already the second in the Western Conference in the regular season. Although he was eliminated by the Warriors in the playoffs, the Rockets persisted until the last moment. They stubbornly scored two consecutive games while trailing 1:3, and tied the score to 3:3. However, the Rockets' young players were too nervous or had poor experience, so they regretfully lost to the Warriors, which restrained their football style.

If another team becomes an opponent, the Rockets might be able to advance to the second round or even reach the Western Conference Finals. Therefore, on the one hand, the Rockets lack experience, and on the other hand, they are also unlucky when they meet the Warriors. Keeping such a lineup will give the Rockets young players a chance of 1 to 2 years. Perhaps without introducing any big-name stars, the Rockets can still become stronger and even have the chance to compete for the NBA championship.

In fact, during this offseason, the Rockets do not necessarily have to chase superstars. Maintaining the integrity of the lineup and leaving behind their meritorious center Steven Adams may be the first choice. Because in the seven games in the playoffs, Adams averaged 22 minutes per game, and his playing time and tactical status were no less than that of a starter. In 7 games, Adams averaged 5.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.1 blocks, 0.4 steals, plus 0.6 assists, and his shooting percentage was as high as 60%. The double towers composed of him and Shin Kyung made the Warriors very uncomfortable.

So, keeping Adams became the Rockets' primary move this summer, and even the priority was higher than introducing a star player. After all, if the Rockets want to maintain the double tower tactics next season, Adams will definitely renew his contract with the Rockets as soon as possible.

NBA expert James Pierce suggested that the Rockets should sign a one-year short contract with Adams. He listed a lot of data to prove how good the combination of Adams and Shin Kyung is. The final conclusion is: Adams' salary this season is $12.6 million, close to the level of a middle-class special, and the Rockets need to make some trade-offs in increasing their imminent combat power and maintaining the flexibility of cap space, so re-signing a new $12.8 million a year with the 31-year-old veteran seems to be a win-win option.

Adams' salary increased instead of falling, and he should be able to accept such a short-term contract. The Rockets can see how Adams performs next season and then decide next summer whether to renew his contract. If Adams performs well next season, the Rockets can give Adams a bigger contract next summer; of course, if Adams' form declines next season, the Rockets only need to endure for a year and will get rid of Adams' 12.8 million contract next summer.

Therefore, such actions can not only maintain the combat effectiveness of the Rockets' inside, but also maintain the flexibility of the Rockets' salary space, which can be said to kill two birds with one stone.

Adams is willing to stay with the Rockets, so as long as the Rockets give him a similar contract, the veteran is still willing to continue playing for the Rockets. By next summer, the Rockets can completely give Adams a bigger contract to keep him for a long time. After all, Adams is the best puzzle to win the championship, and the Rockets must not let him go easily.
